AES Updates

September 25, 2026

Dear School Community,

Welcome to this week's edition of the AES Updates.  We're excited to share the latest happenings and updates from our school community to keep you informed and engaged.

IMPORTANT STUDENT DISCUSSIONS:  Today, I began individual classroom discussions regarding three important things:  Breakfast,  Recess behavior, Restroom expectations

Breakfast:  Your student is invited to have breakfast at school with your permission on the days that they haven't already eaten at home and or if they are hungry.  Our breakfast numbers skyrocketed to over 100 this week.  If your child is hungry they can always have breakfast, snack, and lunch at school.  However, you may wish to discuss with your child the days that they should partake in breakfast.  Much food is being taken and wasted because they are into the novelty of having breakfast and socializing with friends.  

Recess behavior:  Students were reminded that put-downs, bad language, weapon-like play and any hands on physical behavior is not permitted.  Home toys should not be coming out to recess or to school. 

Restrooms:  Students are given independence and responsibility when using the restroom.  However, some students have been making a mess of the soap, paper towels, and flushing inappropriate items.  I asked for their help in taking care of our school spaces.

The FLRSD Strategic Planning Team (SPT) cordially invites you to complete the  26-27 FLRSD Strategic Planning Survey. Your responses will assist SPT members in designing the District's strategic plan. Your responses will shape the future of our District! The survey will take approximately 10 minutes and will remain open until October 7, 2026.

On Monday, September 21, school bus riders will be practicing a rear door evacuation here at AES.  Wearing comfortable clothing is a suggestion for ease of jumping down with assistance.  

We are still in the process of looking for recess monitors.  If you or someone you know would be interested in working two and one-half hours daily from 11:20-1:50, please ask them to apply on the District Website

The Giving Tree, from St. John Neumann Church is again offering holiday assistance to AES families in need.  The Giving Tree provides 3 gifts to each child in the family and delivers the gifts to AES the week before the holiday vacation.  Please email me at jmckenna@freelake.org if you are interested in this opportunity and I will send home the information.  All information needs to be returned to me by October 23rd so I can forward the information to The Giving Tree.

Important Reminders

  1. All students when ordering a bagel and cream cheese are expected to learn how to unwrap the saran wrapped bagel and to spread their cream cheese.  You might consider having your child learn how to do this at home.  They are also learning how to open packages, milk and juice cartons, etc. -  independence is key in the cafeteria!
     
  2.   End-of-Day Dismissal Changes: Bus & Aftercare

If you need to change your child’s end-of-day dismissal plan, please send a note to your child’s teacher. The note should include:
  • Your child’s full name
  • The teacher’s name
  • The full name of the person picking up your child
If your child’s dismissal plans change while school is in session, please call the office at 508-947-1403 dial 0 for the office. Please make every effort to call before 2:30pm.  Emails aren’t always seen by teachers in time. 
Early dismissals are very disruptive to the classrooms, especially when it’s last minute.  Please make every effort to send in a note ahead of time on the occasional early release.  
We greatly appreciate your cooperation and assistance in helping us keep dismissal safe and organized for everyone. 
We understand that emergencies happen, and we are happy to accommodate changes when necessary.   

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars for the following events:

  1.  Friday, October 9, 2026 is a half day of school with a 12:25 dismissal.  This year  lunch will be served.  
  2. October 12, 2026 Holiday No School
  3. Picture Day, October 20, 2026.
  4. District Title I Night October 20 at 5:30. 
  5. October 21, 2026 will be our PTO sponsored Fun Run at AES.
